Boston Machine Knitting

In Oct 24′ we were gifted two flat bed knitting machines and I (Brian) been learning on them ever since. I’m by no means an expert, but I have a few sweaters under my belt, and a LOT of swatches. What I’ve also found is the machine knitting community is sparse. Many have retired, sites are gone, links are broken. A large part of this journey is digging through long defunct sites for golden nuggets of information.

Update (4/26): As these things go, I now own MANY knitting machines and they have taken over a large portion of my basement! It seems the machine knitting community really LOVES machines and gadgets.

There are two machine knitting groups that meet locally. This is your best resource for in person help, socializing, buying/selling/trading equipment and supplies. If you have yarn/tools/etc. you won’t use, this group will take them!

The meeting format is simple, we spend the first 20 minutes or so with open chat, then a more formal show and tell with introductions (you don’t need to have anything to show, members often bring hand knit or even crochet and weaving), this is followed by a demonstration of some type. It’s a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, don’t worry about a thing!

Group meets the 3rd Saturday of the month from 9am to 12pm. All are welcome to attend this free event.

I don’t see a calendar for the Kelley library so if you’re thinking of driving up for your first meeting, perhaps call to verify. Once you’ve attended one meeting, you can be added to the mailing list and access to the online resources.

This is a spin off of the Salem group and many members attend both meetings. Group generally meets the first Sunday of the month from 1pm to 4pm. All are welcome to attend this free event. Check the library calendar to verify dates and meeting space.
